We would like to thank everyone who participated, as author, artist, beta or cheerleader! This has been quite an experience, and Congratulations! all around to those who completed the challenge!
Because so many LJ members were unable to get online earlier in the week, here is a repeat of the announcement regarding the change of venue for the Big Bang stories:

Attention LOTR Big Bang Participants!

Due to a number of unforeseen logistical problems with posting the stories at the LJ Community, the following change has been made:

Authors:

We are asking the authors to upload the stories at the Many Paths to Tread archive. I believe that most of our participants already have accounts there, but if you do not, it is a very simple matter to sign up. If you have any questions about it, please e-mail a mod.

In order to hide the stories until the reveal date, we will temporarily put the participating authors on validation status. This means that any non-Big Bang stories you upload will also be temporarily be hidden. In order to minimize this, we will wait until Thursday night to change the status and ask that you wait until Friday to begin uploading your stories.

We ask you to email a mod once the story is up, giving us the URL of the story. On the reveal date, we will make a master links post to all of the stories here at the LOTR Big Bang Community.

Once the links post is up, you are free to post your stories anywhere else you like.
Since you will be uploading your own stories, here is how to put the illustrations and art in:
How to post your images using the rich-text editor:

1. Upload your image to your image host. You will need to copy the image's URL.
2. In the Story Text field, find the icon with the green tree. It is located in the second row on the text editor, slightly right of center. Click the icon.
3. Paste the image's URL into the Image URL field. Add a brief description of the image in the Image Description field. This will help visitors with screen readers understand what is on your page. Click the green Insert button in the lower-left corner.

The artwork has been added to your story! Fill out the rest of the story form and click Add Story.

Artists:

We ask that you provide your author with the URL for your art, so that she may include it in the story.

We also encourage you to add your art to the archive under your own name. To do that, on the MPTT site, log in and click Add New Story. Choose the "Artwork" Category. Then follow the above steps. In "story summary" put Art Gallery, and just mention which story it is an illustration for. Use the "chapter notes" field to provide a little information about the piece if you want to.

If you need any help with uploading your story or art, please email us.
We are sorry for the change in plans at this late date, and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but after much discussion it was decided that this was the simplest solution to our problems.

Thank you for your patience! We have really been novices at this Big Bang stuff, and have learned a lot.

If you have any questions, please comment here.

If you have already seen this announcement, please disregard.

Extension for LotR Big Bang challenge

Due to the fact that we were late in sending out artist/author match-ups as well as some other factors, the mods have decided on a two-week extension for the rest of the schedule. Therefore the new deadlines are as follows:

Art due: July 4 through July 8July 18 through July 22
Stories and art due in moderator’s queue: weekend of July 15 July 29
Stories and art revealed: on Monday July 18 August 1

Of course, if you are ahead of schedule, more power to you, and keep on going! If you have been worried about making it on time, you can relax a little!

Artist and Author Match-ups!

The mods have made the match-ups for artists and authors! If you are an author who both signed up AND sent in your progress report, or an artist who signed up, please look for an e-mail in your inbox no later than Monday evening! If you do not receive such an e-mail, please comment here to let us know and we will try to track it down!

If you are an author who signed up, but failed to send in a progress report, then you were not assigned an artist. You may, if you choose, still submit a story, but you will be responsible for finding your own artist or let your story be posted without an illustration.

Just so you know:

This is to let the authors and artists know that your mods have not forgotten you!

It is just taking longer than we thought to get together to take care of the match-ups. We've started the process, however, and hopefully will be able to wrap it up soon.

Reminder for Authors!

We have extended the progress reports to Monday! Please see this post for details about reporting your progress!

Artist Sign-ups!

Artist Sign-ups Now Open!

1. You will be responsible for creating at least one piece of art, based on the artist’s story. You may make more than one if you so desire.
2. We mostly expect traditional art: drawings, paintings, photography and photomanips. Photographs of other sorts of art, such as sculpture, collages, needlework, or artifacts would also be acceptable. You may create a banner for the story, or a “cover” if you wish. We will also welcome fanvids if any are so inclined, though those must be based on the story in question.
If you would like to make a very non-traditional sort of art, please let us know what it is, and we will see if we can accommodate you.
3. Art must be within the same rating guidelines as the stories. It has to be family friendly and work-safe. Imagine that your young child or your parents or your boss can see that art on the monitor over your shoulder, and plan your art around that restriction.

Absolutely NO nudity or children in sexual situations!

4. There will be two options for posting. In the first, you may upload your own art to a hosting site (e.g. Photobucket, Flickr, etc. ) and then send the author the code to embed within the story post. (In the event that any are inclined to make vids, we encourage the use of this first option.)

The second option is to send the art to the mods, and we will upload it to a hosting site and send the code to the author.
5. Artists will need to join the lotrgficbigbang community, in order to keep up with any announcements or changes in schedule, and to have posting access when the stories are due.
6. There are a few other requirements. Please see the FAQs here.
7. Any exceptions will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Schedule:

Author sign ups open: Jan. 17 to Jan. 24 (about a week)
Beta and cheerleader sign ups: Jan 24 to Jan 28
Author Progress report due: April 11 to April 25.
(Your progress will be used to assign the artists.)
Artist sign ups open: April 21 to May 2
Artist match ups sent out: May 9
Art due: July 4 through July 8
Stories and art due in moderator’s queue: weekend of July 15
Stories and art revealed: on July 18

(We may also call for other progress reports during May and June.)

Use the header below and comment to this post to sign up. Comments will be screened.

The last day to sign up will be May 2.
This week (April 11-18) is listed as the time for the first official progress report. My apologies for not posting this sooner, and my thanks to those of you who checked-in already anyway! Because I am late making the announcement, we are extending the ending date of the check-in to April 25.

Please email the mods at aelfwina@gmail.com, virginia_lee_redcat@yahoo.com, or celeritassagittae@gmail.com, and let us know your approximate word count and how far along you are (halfway, a third, nearly done and in re-write, etc.) As we will soon be assigning artists, we will also need a summary and possibly some excerpts from existing chapters in order to pass along to your assigned artist(s) so she can get some inspiration. You may either include that in your progress email, or send it separately. Make sure to include "Big Bang Progress" in your subject line.
